similes, metaphors, analogies

An unsharpened pencil is like a talent undeveloped: a whole lot of potential just needing to be sharpened and defined to a perfect point. ~ just one of the examples I’ll be using in my teaching this week.

I miss teaching Literature.  It’s been too many years.   Sometimes, I fear that I would lose my touch.  I’m trying to get it together by reading a bit.  This week, we make a journey back to similes, metaphors and analogies.

space geek stuff

I have to confess that this is a topic that I will struggle a lot with.  When it comes to the really science geek stuff, I know little.  This week, we are going to analyse a text describing what earth looks like from the International Space Station.  These videos are really going to help make the teaching a lot easier.

Take a tour of the International Space Station!

new year, new lesson material

I am excited to start this year of teaching.  It is going to be a lot of hard work in reading and learning.  I spent a whole day just doing up one lesson for a visual text.  But I hope my students will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.  This week, we are going to have a look at the aviation industry and find out what’s the appeal in low cost carriers versus full service flights.  We are going to find out what is the appeal of the iconic Singapore Girl in the world famous sarong kebaya. Finally, we are going to deconstruct what makes these airline advertisements work.

Sneak peak:

Here’s something fun I chance upon while reading up on low cost carriers.  Enjoy!

current reads

I resolve to make time intentionally to read.  I would like to spend less time on my phone on the train or bus.  I hope that a book would be the last thing I look at before I sleep.

We never really understand how small we are until we see it in perspective.
