Monday’s marathon meeting immediately after the Teachers’ Day Concert was brutal.  I only got to open and sort out all the cards and presents today.  I sincerely want to thank everyone for all the lovely cards, heartfelt wishes and gifts.  They are an immense encouragement to me.  It doesn’t get any easier as the years go by.  Reading (and re-reading) every single one of the cards remind and affirm what I started doing in the first place.  When the going gets tough, I sometimes take out some of these cards and reading it gives me an instant boost of faith.  I still believe in impacting and influencing the lives of young people.  It will bear fruit in the years to come.  Thank you to all my lovely students

One of the most anti-climatic nights in the recent months.  It was a great night with marvellous performances by our SYF performers.  I waited at the reception area for the stars for the night.  Lo and behold, I dropped my camera   So what you see here is merely a fraction of the fabulous people at RP.  Nevertheless, I  was extremely delighted to see my ex-students.  You will notice that the photos are extremely dominated by boys and a certain Sec 5 class.  There is no biasness here.  Blame it on my careless fingers and the dead camera.  Argh!

4B2007 rocks!!!

It’s been pretty dreary this week since I had no lessons.  I miss the bantering and interaction in class.  Today has been one of the most trying days in a long while.  I went for an extra long run to work off the frustration and put things into perspective.  At the end of today’s run, I realised when I go running, I am reminded of the simple things in life that I should be grateful for.

When I run in the evenings, some of these things cheer me up:

1. simple laughter from children playing in the playgrounds
2. really cute dogs excited by the prospect of sniffing out something interesting
3. inspiration from many more stronger joggers who seem to go on endlessly with little effort
4. peace and privacy to sort out my crowded mind
5. a lady with an amputated leg exercising with one remaining limb
6. fragrance from some flowering trees that rest heavily at one corner

Most of all, I am reminded that many  simple things in life outweigh the burdens that we carry. They make life meaningful.  So, don’t miss the obvious!

I told my form class that for once I seriously felt stressed at the photoshoot today. Give me more compositions anytime. Thanks to their superb script writing and photo concept, I was supposed to play the part of a pathetic bunny fairy. Yes, you read it correctly. BUNNY FAIRY.

This was what transpired:
Peiling: (hands me the bunny ears) You are supposed to wear this later. Try it now.
Me: What? NO.
Peiling: Yes. Just try it on.
Me: No way. I am not going to wear rabbit’s ears.
Peiling: (ignoring me and rummaging the bag) and hold this (wand). Wait, there are lights. Turn it on like this …
Me: Wah …. this is so ….
Peiling: Wait, turn it off. Better save battery. Okay? Later you wear the bunny ears …
Me: I don’t want to ….. (she doesn’t budge.)
Yong Kian: Hey Miss Lai. Later, you must hold the wand and look like pathetic ….. okay?
Me: No.
Yong Kian: Yes, you must do it. We planned it already. Later, Mr Tan will hit you with the hammer.
Me: What? How come Mr Tan gets to be the pirate? I want to be the pirate.
Yong Kian: Nooooo. We planned it already.

As you can see, there was no way I could change their minds. It was hilarious and I think this will be one fantastic class photo. Thanks for planning everything guys!

One last thing.  This is what happened to the bunny ears.  One of my geckos finally had ears!
